- Jaclyn's paintings are imaginative recordings of absence, alluding to loss and the passage of time. These motifs are repeated throughout her oeuvre to express universal feelings of love, isolation and memory; appearing in various guises including body-less dresses and pink elephants. In her most recent body of work, she creates empty landscapes and deserted spaces that serve as witnesses to abandoned human activity, enabling the emergence of something new, something different to be born. The compositions simultaneously convey tenderness and transformation, vulnerability and strength. They reflect both the promise of creation and the disappointment of destruction, hovering at the threshold of either of these eventualities. Jaclyn captures the moment when atrophy begins or alternatively where creation starts, this perception ultimately is dependent upon the viewers own personal history. We are never explicitly confronted with the stimulus for the transformation or with the memory that has activated the scene. These situations begin and end beyond the two dimensional plane of the canvas, in a place where both artist and viewer are necessary to complete the narrative.
